Scoopy

We have an Elf on the Shelf.  He's great. I noticed a few years ago that some of my friends were posting these weird things on facebook with this elf around Christmas.  For some reason, it's caught on and now Reid has his own Elf on a Shelf.  His name is Scoopy.  Santa sent him from the North Pole to watch over Reid and Nolan.  Every night he goes back to see Santa and report on the boys behavior.  When he comes back the next day, he's alway in a different spot.  It must be magic...  Reid loves it.  Finding Scoopy (Reid named him) is the highlight of his day.  He's so consumed with the magic of Christmas that this is just adding to it.  I love it.  Scoopy has left Reid a few presents cause of his behavior.  Usually when Reid does a really good job on the potty he'll get some sort of recognition from Scoopy and Santa.  Where will he be tomorrow???

The End of Paternity Leave

Christien went back to work yesterday. That was a quick, and fun 6 weeks. Yesterday was kinda hard. Trying to get ourselves into a routine with just me and two kidlets is a bit intimidating. Some days will be better then others. Happy to say that today was a good day. Potty training and all. Yes, that's right. Potty training Reid. I'm not totally sure how it's going. Christien took the reigns on this one. I'm too consumed with baby Nolan. So they did the whole potty day a few weeks ago. Timer on for every 15 minutes, and to the potty whether he liked it or not. Lots of sugary treats for rewards. We really have to stay on top of it cause it we don't ask or take him to the potty, the we are bound to have an accident. I'm so overwhelmed with doing this by myself that I had him in pull ups today. Too many accidents over the last few days. After school he went back into underwear and o accidents. Plus he even asked/told me he needed to go. That's huge. Although I think he was just wanting the chocolates I was letting him have after each pee. Oh well. I'm just taking this all one day at a time. I remember when Christien went back to work after Reid was born. He was only 10 days old and I was beyond overwhelmed. Everyday I would wake up and make a little tick on the white board counting down the days till Christien got home. I definitely feel better this time. Although it's a very different story with two munchkins,

Santa Baby!!

The boys went to see Santa this week.  Super cute.  And super hilarious.  Reid was very serious with Santa and didn't look him in the eye ever (probably cause he knew he was lying about being a good boy, lol).  It was pretty cool to see Santa and Reid interact.  They talked about Nolan and what he wanted for Christmas and what Reid wanted for Christmas, and when they were ready for the photo we popped Nolan onto Santa's shoulder (he's obviously done this before) and voila.  Perfection :) Love my boys even though they offer me little sleep and a chaotic household.  I joke with Christien that I'm going to get him therapy for Christmas so that he can learn to deal with the mess, and the toys, and the creativeness...

One Month Old

How time can fly sometimes. Our little Nolan is one month old today. He's been pretty fussy these last few weeks, mentioned it during his check up today and the doctor up him on baby Zantac. Reid was one it from 6 to 12 months so he figures that we might as well give it a go for baby Nolan. Poor thing was up screaming and crying from midnight to 4:30 last night (poor mama and dada too).  Hopefully this will help his little stomach settle and make him a bit happier. He's up to 10 lbs 7 oz.  he's only gained a pound in the last months, but nothing to be worried about. He's in the 75th percentile for weight and 95th for height!!!! Reid better watch it!

Ten more days till Christien goes back to work. Holy smokes, six weeks flew by!

Update: Nolan is fine! He's doing great and seems to be feeling much better, thanks to the medicine. I know there's a lot of concern for our little wee boy to be on medication so early in life, but I assure you that we tried everything we could before turning to medicating him. The poor guy was in so much pain and we needed some help to make him better. Have no fear friends and family. Thanks for all your concern :)

Almost a month in...

Can't believe baby Nolan is going to be a month old on Thursday. Time flies so much faster when you are doubly busy. Thank god that Christien is still home otherwise I'd be triply busy. At least I can have a nap during the day if I need to right now. Two more weeks and he's back at work and it's just me and my wee boys. On the bright side, when he's done his next two week stint, he'll be back and it'll be Christmas time!!

We bought an Elf on the Shelf for Reid this year. I had no idea what it was but saw people posting pictures of the same elf all over Facebook and someone pinned 101 ideas to do with your elf on Pinterest. So I looked into it and it's hilarious. The little elf is a bit creepy, but funny. The story goes that he is sent to your from the North Pole and he just chills and watches you all day, then at night he flies back to the North Pole to report if you were naughty or nice to Santa. Hilarious. You can't touch the elf cause then he'll lose his magic. Every night that he comes home end up being somewhere different in the house. Reid gets a kick trying to find Scoopy (yup, his name) every morning. Funny enough, he does do things to "impress" Scoopy. He tells him what he wants for Christmas every day. Pretty funny little guy.

We also started potty training Reid on Sunday. What. A. Long. Day. And Christien was the one most in charge. I read the books, and he took the lead. No pants, only shirt and underwear all day. Timer on the phone for every 15 minutes. To the potty every time it went off. Candy for snacks. Lots of drinks. Drinks he doesn't normally get. He was so full of sugar by the end of the day. Crashed hard, but... Bad dreams. So that sucked. He only had a few accidents. But for the times that a he says he has to go to the bathroom, it almost makes up for it (note to self, need to buy Reid more pants). This morning we were downstairs watching TV and he got up and, out of the blue said, "I do it, I do it" ran upstairs and went pee by himself. Very impressive Mr Short. We're just holding our breath that it works!!

He's Here...

We were lucky enough to welcome a beautiful baby boy to our family on Monday, October 22, 2012. Labor came pretty quickly, and as we reflected back on it, we realized that if Christien didn't come home from work early this round, he would have missed it.  Went into labour at midnight on Sunday night/Monday morning and Nolan Richard Short was born at 6:53 am.  Pretty intense labor, but I was able to do it without have a C-section, which was really important to me.  Knowing the kind of recovery that comes with a C-section, well...  I just really wanted to avoid that.  Especially with having another one at home.  I now have a family full of boys!!  I can't wait to watch Reid and Nolan grow up together.  Reid already loves his brother so much.  He's full of hugs and kisses.  I think that there is a little bit of jealousy there, but we're trying our best to give them both the attention that they need and deserve.  So far, Nolan is proving to be a pretty chill baby.  He likes to snuggle, but he'll nap wherever you put him usually.  He's also taken to a soother, which some mums might say is a nightmare, but I'm glad that he's got something that he can use to help soothe himself.  Reid is still dealing with soothing issues at almost 3. Christien is home until the beginning of December.  He has been working the last few days, just doing some side work while he is home.  And we've had lots of visitors and are still expecting more this weekend.  Lucky little boys to be loved by so many people.

7 - 10 Days

One more week till baby's official due date. Saw the doctor today and had to book a c-section as a back up plan cause they don't like to let patients who have previously had a c-section go too far beyond their due date.  Too many risks involved or something like that. Anyways, section is scheduled for October 26th, so if baby can't make it on it's own then in 10 days we'll be holding it in our arms. And by it, I'm thinking boy.  Holy crap! Baby is as big as a watermelon now. It's one is probably as big as two. The end is I sight!!!!
